After last weekend’s weather, I’d welcome anything, but the forecast actually looks strong for a few pleasant, partially outdoors days of autumn this week. If you do nothing else, then at least spend an hour on the porch with a cup of coffee, enjoying the leaves’ photogenic death. If, however, you’re a little more ambitious, then here are a few adventures I suggest:
- The Baltimore Women’s Film Festival stages a bloodless revolution this weekend, October 23 through 25, at the Landmark Theatre in Harbor East (645 S. President Street). Less exhausting than a walk-a-thon, the festival is another way to raise money for breast cancer research, since that is the theme of the month we are in. Starting times for the screenings are: Friday 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. $50 gets you into everything. Categories include: Films Set in Baltimore, Films about Magical Realism and Dreams, and Short Films about Madness, Sanity, and the Creative Process.
- Knit Wit at Nudashank on the 3rd Floor of the H&H Arts Building in Seton Hill (405 W. Franklin Street) is an exhibit of knitted or sewn artwork. The opening reception is tonight, October 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at which point it is likely to d/evolve into a warehouse party. Full disclosure: one of the artists featured in the show is a friend. That said, it should be an impressive collection of work from Maryland, New York, California, and Florida. Admission is free.
- The annual Lantern Parade (Eastern and S. Linwood Avenues) haunts Patterson Park this Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Expect magic, irony, and Poe references.
- The Wine Festival will give all of Federal Hill (Charles and Cross Streets) a pleasant buzz on Sunday, October 25 from noon to 7:00 p.m. This is actually the City of Baltimore’s official wine fest, though I’m not sure if that makes it more or less appealing. Either way: food, seminars, and samples from over 100 wineries. $30 gets you in.
What will you do with all that nostalgia in the air?

The annual Lantern Parade (Eastern and S. Linwood Avenues) mentioned above has been postponed until SUNDAY because of the weather forecast. For details, visit http://www.creativealliance.org or http://www.southeastcdc.org.
Also, before the parade this year, there is a festival, which begins at 3 pm (same location) with a Magic Hat beer garden, WTMD stage, food, arts and crafts and last minute lantern making!
