This show we’ve mentioned before, and its recurrence tonight should serve as proof of its success so far. The fourth installment of Ignite Baltimore, an attention-deficit networking event imported from Seattle, goes up at 6:00 p.m. tonight, October 22, at the Walters Art Museum in Midtown (600 N. Charles Street).
Tonight also marks a year (give or take a week) since the first Ignite Baltimore. One of the speakers will be Braddock Spear, who purportedly started his sustainable seafood company after meeting with Ignite presenters at that same event.
The formula is ruthless and rich: each speaker has exactly five minutes to present a topic with the help of twenty slides which are programmed to switch every fifteen seconds. Sixteen speakers total. Time is not negotiable. Everything else is.
Admission is free, but if you show up at the door without a reservation, you’re likely to be disappointed. RSVP here and you’ll have a better chance of getting in between 6:00 and 6:45. At 6:45, the doors open to anyone else who can cram himself inside. The good news is that the Walters will hold about twice as many people as Ignite’s last venue, the Windup Space in Station North (12 W. North Avenue).
Topics to be covered supposedly include getting fired, nanotechnology, being prosecuted by the federal government, beatboxing, and not having a job on purpose.
What would you do with five minutes and an audience?
