Good news this week from the Sun; home sales in the Baltimore area have perhaps more than modestly increased. June was up two percent over last year and July was up a big 10 percent! The catches are these: (a.) prices are still way down due to the massive oversupply of houses, and this situation isn’t going to change till probably next year, (b.) the biggest sales increase has been in homes under the $250,000 mark, and (c.) some folks think everyone will leave now.
Yeah, that’s right. Didn’t they read our piece on that?
Our friends at Investigative Voice have the skinny on a local movement to get City Council to lower property taxes. The short version of the argument is that since Baltimore City doesn’t offer much return on a tax that’s twice as high as the County’s, people now hoping to make the most of their first home purchase are likely to look elsewhere, rather than spoil whatever awesome deal they’ve gotten by tossing their savings down the City’s rabbit hole. And nobody wants that. Godspeed, Frank M. Conaway.
There’s another glimmer of sunshine to be added to this summery mix, though. The National Association of Realtors ranked Maryland #9 out of fifty in home sales increases, so don’t stray too far. We think we can, we think we can.
When are you going to make your move?
