Have you ever been taken to a restaurant––by, say, your girlfriend’s parents––where the selections were so few and so weirdly disparate that it seemed as if the menu had been designed for three specific people, of which you might not have been one? Welcome to that restaurant:

1. The Theatrical Mining Company presents the ambiguously religious family drama, The Ape on the Church Steps, as part of the 28th Annual Baltimore Playwrights festival. The play opened last night and continues through Sunday, August 30th. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances are at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays are at 7:00 p.m. Thursday pay what you can, Friday and Saturday pay $13, and Sunday pay $13 for two tickets, except the last. This play and its highly complex system of payment will be hosted by the Copeland Theatre at the winner of the prize for best inadvertent acronym, College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Roland Park (4701 N. Charles Street).

2. It may be the last day, but that just means you get to see the finale. Baltimore Fashion Week’s final night is tonight, Friday August 14, and if you want to see all the spicy parts they’ve been saving for last, then you’ll have to hurry to War Memorial Building Downtown (101 N. Gay Street). General seating is $20, but it’ll be worth it for the people watching alone.

3. The Wind-Up Space in Station North (12 W. North Avenue) presents the latest installment of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, which––in case you never dropped out of art school––is a combination burlesque show/life drawing class/drinking game that will cost you a measly $7 to enter. Bring your own art supplies. Everything else will be provided.
