Real Estate Round Up –This Old House Edition

July 21st, 2009 by Rachel Monroe

The Real Estate Wonk recently alerted us to the fact that our own little Lauraville has been named the Best Old House Neighborhood in Maryland by no other than This Old House.  Here are some of our favorite Lauraville finds currently on the market.

5208 Catalpha Road

This house looks like a home to us.  We’re not quite sure why, maybe it’s the red shutters, maybe it’s the covered front porch, maybe it’s the shaded lawn, but it feels right.  More than just feeling though, this has all the accoutrements you’d ever need for living.  A brick back patio, a second floor master suite, and a lovely, light green kitchen that makes us want to bake.  And with three-bedrooms and two bathrooms, you’ll have plenty of room for anyone you’d like to share your still warm cookies with.  Priced at $255,000.

2500 Ailsa Avenue

This four-bedroom, two bathroom corner lot house has something we always kind of wanted: a workshop in the garage.  Maybe we’re dorky, but there’s something satisfying about working with tools and fixing stuff.  But, after we’re done feeling like a man we could slip into the newly refurbished kitchen to grab a bite to eat, or just lounge around the covered front porch, slipping a cold glass of bourbon.  Either way, we’d be happy.  Priced at $250,000, and eligible for a $10,000 grant.

2603 Halcyon Avenue

What you need to know about this house right away is that it needs a lot of work.  Seriously, this is a rehabilitation project and not one for the faint of heart.  But, should you decide that it’s for you, you’ll be getting a great, great space.  There are five bedrooms here to go along with two baths, a wide, covered porch (with great-looking stone steps!) and it’s just a stones throw from Hamilton, a neighborhood’s neighborhood if there ever was one.  And if you’re concerned about having enough money for a rehabilitation project, well, you shouldn’t be; there are tons of incentive and loan programs given through the city of Baltimore for rehabilitating homes.  In particular the Baltimore Healthy Neighborhoods loans are designed almost specifically for houses like this. Priced at $69,900, down from $115,000.

If you have questions about the Baltimore Healthy Neighborhood program, would like more information on any of the above houses, or have a different kind of house in mind, contact Brent Roberts at Urban Discoveries Living.
