Baltimore City User’s Guide: Dating!

One of the best things about living in a city is the abundance of people.  That’s kind of the idea of a city, we know, but it’s still nice to see other folks out and about, living their lives as they walk around the streets.  But, then again, there are times when it gets lonely around here … especially when you’re watching disgustingly happy couples feed each other half-melted ice cream while you mope around in your miserable, dateless life.

But you don’t have to stay miserable, dear reader.  For one, you could always try the new millennium’s favorite ADD-inspired fad, speed dating.  There are a few options here in town, but we’re partial to the “Pre-dating” offered by Cupid.com.  (We know they’re a big national chain, but it’s hard to find local dating services that don’t have creepy late night ads.)  Generally speaking you can expect to meet 10–12 singles in a one hour session — six minutes is usually long enough to establish interest (or lack thereof) for us.  Or, if you’re the type who really needs to know a person before getting on to that second date you could try It’s Just Lunch, a dating service built around the idea of lunch dates and after dinner drinks.  Considering all you business types out there have busy, busy schedules, it’s a pretty handy way to squeeze your social life into the middle of the day.

After you get that first date though, you’ve got to come up with somewhere to head on the second one. City Paper has had a Best First Date winner for the last two years— but we think you should mostly trust your instincts here. Do something outdoors, participatory, and fun.  Go somewhere where talking is an option, but not the only option.  Try the National Aquarium, or Ft. McHenry, or Little Italy.
