For those eager to celebrate the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, today is a good day to check out some of Baltimore’s regular Tuesday night specials, because it’s not like every Tuesday can be the C. of M.
1. Captain Larry’s in South Baltimore (601 E. Fort Avenue) calls Tuesday night Family night, an occasion marked by half-price margaritas and fish sandwiches. The offer’s good from 5:00 – 11:00 p.m., but the Captain only accepts cash, so I’d recommend going early, while you’ve still got some in your poncho.
2. Dead Freddie’s in Hamilton (7209 Harford Road) has one of the sweeter of the deals I’ve encountered: $14 will buy you twenty wings and a pitcher of domestic. I’ve been hearing about Hamilton for a while now from my bohemian/miscreant friends. Oh well: hipsters are the vanguard of the gentry.
3. Baltimore Pho (1114 Hollins Street) in SoWeBo (though I have to ask, really? just one consonant off?) serves fine Vietnamese food every day and on Tuesdays offers half-price wine, by the glass or the bottle, which, hey, that’s no joke.
4. The Ottobar in sort-of Charles Village (2549 N. Howard Street) has a two-for-one night at their upstairs bar. My recommendation: comb your hair, wear a coat and tie, straight face it. The art kids and the gutter punks will warm up to you eventually, and you might even make some new friends. It won’t hurt that you’ll already be holding two drinks.
Where do you go to pinch pennies on the Fifth of May and other holidays Mexico barely observes?
