One thing we love about Baltimore — it’s a city that loves to celebrate. And celebrate publicly, with lots of funnel cake and crowds of strangers. Don’t believe us? Check out our quick run-down on the events surrounding the Baltimore For Less weekend, including the first annual Station North Spring Music Festival, and if that doesn’t satisfy you, well then here are a few more festive things for your warm weekend pleasure:
Johns Hopkins hosts its annual Spring Fair starting today, Friday, April 24 at Hopkins’ Homewood campus in Charles Village (3400 N. Charles Street) and they’ll keep selling cheap jewelry and less-cheap beer from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Highlights include a non-profit fair, tipsy undergraduates, and a Saturday evening concert by the Roots. The bad news: the show will set you back $25 if you’re not a JHU student.
Although the City-sponsored First=Time Homebuyer Workshop on Saturday, April 25 isn’t exactly a festival per-se, we’re sure if you go with the right attitude you can make it feel like one. There are certainly plenty of events lined up: info sessions about the various tax advantages of owning and renting, the $8,000 homebuyer tax credit, City-sponsored renovation credits… if these record-low interest rates have you in a buying mood, stop by the Canton Public Library (1030 S. Ellwood Avenue) from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to get all the information you could ever want.
Next Thursday, April 30, the Maryland Science Center downtown (601 Light Street) brings together the scientists and the oenophiles for an evening of wine appreciation for Wineology 101, an event that promises to explore the connections between our appreciation of fine libations and our senses. We’re pretty sure that you’ll come away with some smart tidbits on color, smell, and “taste zones” with which to wow your snooty friends. Plus, you’ll get to drink a lot of nice wine provided by the fine folks at the Wine Market. Tickets cost $40 ($35 for members) and will most likely sell out in advance, so reserve your spot while you still can.
