Hey!  It’s April!  It’s springtime!  You need to get out of the house and start doing things!  And once you’re out you shouldn’t go back home just to eat!  No!  Stay out!  Eat out!  Try new places!  Like all of these new Baltimore restaurants!

Famous Yakitori One (2101 Maryland Avenue, 410-332-1100):  Yakitori, in case you’ve never heard of it (don’t feel bad, we hadn’t either), is a popular Japanese street food usually made from chicken and served on skewers.  Famous Yakitori One in South Charles Village, in a merciful break from tradition, serves more than just wings and gizzards; they’ve got skewers with asparagus-wrapped bacon, quail eggs, shrimp and more.  And if you’re not feeling brave, take note: more than just yakitori is on the menu, there’s a range of traditional Japanese dishes as well.  Famous Yakitori One is gaining a little critical heat too: both the Sun and the City Paper have reviewed it positively in the last couple weeks.

Elevation Burger (1006 Aliceanna Street, 410-244-6156):  Cheeseburgers can taste really, really good.  But can be really, really bad for you.  All that grease and salt and cholesterol, man, it adds up.  But Elevation Burger, a chain out of northern Virginia, is trying to change all that.  Using only organic, grass-fed, free-range beef for their burgers and only cooking with 100 percent olive oil, they’re serving up a mean burger, shake and fries down in Harbor East.  While their menu is pretty limited, they do have some veggie burger options – even a vegan burger, if that’s your thing.  Their prices are reasonable too, fairly in-line with the fast food chains they’re trying to be a healthy alternative to.

Talara Baltimore (615 President Street) Opening in May, Talara looks to be something different: a tapas restaurant serving Latin American small plates.  We like that idea -  Mediterranean food can get a bit bland at times – but what we really like is the seviche bar they have planned for the restaurant.  Seviche… oh, how we love seviche.
