Upcoming Events — Weekend of 4/3

April 3rd, 2009 by Brent Roberts

n62431310697_6892There’s been a rash of yoga studios closing, opening, moving, rearranging. Case in point: Quantum Yoga in Mount Washington (6080 Falls Road) has joined forces with (and adopted the name of) Hampden’s Baltimore Yoga Village (3000 Chestnut Avenue). They’re celebrating the change with an all-day open house at the Mount Washington location this Saturday, April 4. There will be food, zen dancing, sound healing with crystal bowls, and — of course — yoga… and it’s all free. The event kicks off with an opening meditation at 10:00 a.m., and they’ll close things out at 6 p.m. with a “smudging and cleansing of the space.” Not only will you come away cleansed in body and mind, but any five- or ten-class passes bought on Saturday will also come at a discount.

Sound healing not quite… weird enough for you? Well then we’ve got just the ticket — Baltimore’s sixth-annual Transmodern Festival began on Thursday and runs through Sunday, April 5, with music and performances and surprises galore. This year the festival takes over the H&H Building in Seton Hill (405 W. Franklin Street). Check out the whole schedule here, and find out more with Aural States’ preview here. This is one of our favorite events in Baltimore — it showcases our city’s incredible mix of the devoted and the bizarre. We hope to see you there.

Two events this week should appeal to the design geek inside all of us (it’s there, if you look deep enough, we promise): the seventh in the Baltimore Design Conversation series analyzes tools and their role in the creative process. Share your thoughts at the Windup Space in Station North (12 W. North Avenue) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m on Wednesday, April 8. And on Thursday, April 9, head over to Bolton Hill (MICA Room 110, 1300 W. Mt. Royal Avenue) for Refresh Baltimore’s exploration of “the often tumultuous relationship between graphic designer and web developer through the real world stories of a working design studio.”
