We like food. A lot. But, sad to say, we’re not very good at cooking. Left to our own devices we keep to pasta, peanut butter and canned soup. It’s sustenance, sure, but our tongue hates us and our mother worries. So we eat out, keeping an eye open for new restaurants that pop up, something different than what we’ve tried before. Here are some of the places we’ve been hearing about lately.
La Famiglia (Guilford): This new Italian restaurant opened February 2 in the former location of Brasserie Tatin (which closed for good last fall). Rave reviews have been popping up all over the place, and the word of mouth is equally good. Prices for entrees start in the mid-teens, but nothing’s over $30. (105 West 39th Street)
Alizee (Homewood): Alizee opened just this past month in the dining room of the Inn at the Colonnade. Billing itself a “boutique bistro” and wine bar, they serve food described as “”French fusion-having strong French roots with a wide traveling of Asian flavors and complementing ingredients.” That sort of talk makes us giggle in anticipation. Prices are in the $20 – $30 range. (4 W. University Parkway)
Terra Café (South Charles Village): After having been open for only a couple of months, Terra Café has already become a neighborhood fixture. It’s just a little friendlier, cleaner, and more delicious than the many other no-frills lunch spots in the neighborhood; plus, it’s open for dinner and has free WiFi. And take our word for it-the home fries are divine. Sandwiches hover around $7 – $8. (101 E. 25th Street)
Mekong Delta Café (Downtown): The ideal lunch spot for all you Vietnamese food-loving downtown workers, the Mekong Delta Café serves a cheap lunch ($5!), much-praised pho, and abundant vegetarian options. After reading the raves from the food wonks at Chowhoud, we might just go there for lunch today. (105 W. Saratoga Street)
Are there any new restaurants around Baltimore that you’re excited about? Any old classics that are still worth checking out?

Will have to try out the pho place…
Have you heard anything about the new restaurant in Canton opening on Kenwood Ave. called Clutch?
So even after much googling, we haven’t found ANYTHING about Clutch. Anyone else know anything about it?
Yeah, I’ve been, menu is still pretty basic but the place has potential, the set-up is pretty nice….they are going for an upscale sports bar vibe
