Events Listing — Weekend of 3/13

March 13th, 2009 by Brent Roberts

Two Friday the 13ths in a row! Luckily there should be plenty of four-leafed clovers around this weekend to help you chase away that bad luck. Here are our picks for exciting events this weekend and beyond….

You’ve outgrown green beer, but still want to imbibe something shamrock-colored this weekend? Morton’s Steakhouse downtown (300 S. Charles Street) hosts Absinthe, the Green Hour on Friday, March 13. A Pernod-absinthe expert will guide your drinking, and there will be oysters and other swanky appetizers to balance out the drinking. It’s $45 a person, and that includes tax and tip!

This week also marks the annual celebration of all things Federal Hill, the Fest of All. Stop by the Baltimore Museum of Industry (1415 Key Highway) this Saturday, March 14 for a fashion show, open bar, gambling parlor, silent auction… and lots and lots of food. And it’s all for a good cause — the Federal Hill Main Street Neighborhood Revitalization Program. Tickets are $60 in advance and $75 at the door.

On 3/14 celebrate Pi Day (get it?) at the Maryland Science Center downtown (601 Light Street). They’ve got it all — pie eating contests (with pie provided from Dangerously Delicious pies), pie samples, circular activities, and a pi memorization contest with — guess what? — pie as a prize! It also happens that Pi Day is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, so there will be a special birthday serenade to him.

Also on Saturday, Parks & People hosts a seed give-away day, just in time for spring planting. Yep, that’s right — free seeds for the community. It gets even better if you have a community garden that’s part of the Community Greening Resource Network; then you get even more free gardening materials, plus a workshop that’ll help you figure out how to best use them. Items include flower, herb and vegetable seeds; vegetable transplants; and perennial flowers and ground covers. The giveaway takes place at the Steiff Silver Building in Remington (800 Wyman Park Drive).

And of course there’s plenty of St. Patrick’s–inspired revelry going on this weekend and beyond; we’ll just point out one particular bar that’s taking the theme as far as it can go. Alexander’s Tavern in Fells Point (710 S. Broadway) goes all out with a special brunch on the day itself, Tuesday March 17. The green beer begins flowing at 3:17 p.m., and the first keg is free (!); Irish dishes are priced at $3.17, as are bottles of Guinness.
