Baltimore is for Winners

January 28th, 2009 by Rachel Monroe

trad_1Feeling lucky? We’ve found a couple of contests tailor-made for Baltimore residents. (Don’t say we never gave you anything!) All you need is imagination, creativity — and maybe some cake-baking skills.

First things first:  Whenever we think about the proposed free downtown circular bus, we get all fluttery inside. It promises to take people — tourists and Baltimoreans alike — from Little Italy to the Hollins Market area with plenty of Inner Harbor Stops in between. Plus, it’s a hybrid, so no emissions. Plus, it’s free! We’re swooning just thinking about it.

We’ll have to wait until July for the free ride, but don’t worry — we’ll be sure to keep you informed. For now, though, you can put in your bid for local glory by giving the new system a name. Only one entry is allowed per person, and the contest ends on February 6. If you win, you get some fortune along with your fame — namely gift certificates and other prizes worth about $1000. The nine runners-up get prize packages worth about $200.  Enter the contest at  www.yournameyourride.com.  After all, if you end up using it as much as we think you will, shouldn’t it have catchy name?

The erstwhile Baltimore Snacker alerted us to another Baltimore-centric contest, this one hosted by Remington bakery (and Food Network stars) Charm City Cakes. The challenge here is a bit more in-depth:  craft a charming Valentine’s Day cake, then make a short video about it. Watch the contest announcement on YouTube, and submit a video response (preferably under three minutes long) before February 10 at midnight.

Entering? Let us know how it goes!
